New Mexico is still a few months away from having cool weather. It basically skips fall and dives from summer into winter, so when we were in Alaska at the end of August we enjoyed as many cool evenings as we could. I was completely content to relax on the wrap around porch at the Ridgewood Lodge (see our full trip here), all bundled up taking in the early signs of fall.
One of my favorite ways to style an outfit for a cool evening is to layer one staple piece over another, over another to compose a interesting look that is cozy and more mobile than a coat. For this cool evening in Alaska I paired an over-sized cardigan, with a chambray top over a simple striped tee. These are all items that are on frequent rotation in my closet and look great by themselves or layered.
It’s not to late to pick up these comfortable sneakers. They also come in polka dot and are the perfect pop of pattern for any back to basics outfit.
