Deck the Halls

christmas mantel stocking elf on the shelf christmas decorations

Every year I try to come up with a few new ideas for Christmas decorations from things we already have and add one or two new purchased items to our Christmas decor collection.  Last year we added gorgeous hand-made stockings that I found on Etsy and this year we added a German tea light carousel that I am obsessed with.  Ours was a gift from my German in-laws and I can’t find the exact one online, but this pyramid one is beautiful and I also love this caroler carousel.

My first little project was to wrap a succulent plant in simple red wrapping paper topped with a recycled Christmas bow to add a some holiday cheer to the bathroom counters.

We had some breakable Christmas ornaments from our pre-toddler days that I stacked with pine cones into a glass vase, which has been a very simple but elegant decoration to have on our counter next to the nutcracker.

We are having tons of fun with the elf on the shelf Christmas tradition! The little one wakes up every morning and the first thing he does is toddle around the house looking for Ralph, our elf.  As soon as he spots him he starts jumping up and down saying “silly Ralph!” and then drags us out of bed to go see where Ralph’s spot of the day is.  If you have little ones, I highly recommend doing the elf on the shelf tradition.  You can get one with the book explaining the tradition here.
