Family Hike

new mexico mountains toddler hiking new mexico mountains hike boulders mom toddler hike

Saturday morning we got up early and headed up the trail in our community for a little hike. I use the term hike loosely because hiking with 2 year old entails walking a mile or less.  The little one wants to climb and explore everything these days.  My instincts scream “NO!,” so I am trying to over come them and let him be a little boy and explore, climb, and be without his mommy by his side for more than 20 seconds.  It’s hard!

I usually hike in basic running clothes like this simple running shorts and tee, but we are headed to Alaska in a month, so we definitely need some good quality hiking gear.  I’ve been debating what to get that I will be able to wear hiking both in Alaska and New Mexico without spending a fortune and have settled on these boots, these pants, and this amazing vest.

What’s your favorite hiking gear?  Any suggestions for what I should take on our trip (I need serious help…..hiking clothes are not my thing)?

Hi Carly, oh it must be hard to let your little one explore things of his own but it looks like he’s having a lot of fun. Omg you guys are heading to Alaska. Sounds so cool. I hope you’re taking a million pics. Not sure if the clothes and shoes you chose are warm enough. Isn’t it super cold there right now?

We are so excited and I will definitely be taking tons of pictures and sharing them on the blog! Supposively it should be in the 60s, so fingers crossed. I am definitely going to pack some heavy coats and leggings to put under my pants just in case. Have a great weekend!

Love these photos…looks like it was such a fun time! My husband and I go hiking quite a bit and love the brand, Prana…it might be worth checking out! Also there’s always REI…they have a lot nice gear there! 🙂

That looks like such a fun way to spend the morning. Your son is adorable… and looks so much like you. I have heard those pants are amazing and super comfortable for hiking.
