Flexibility with Our Fitness Routine

For as long as I can remember, I have been a runner. I’ve pretty much always ran 3 or more days a week since I was twelve (minus a few vacations and when I was pregnant).  I thought I would do this forever, but lately it just hasn’t been working out. We live in an area with tons of huge hills and I’ve reached a point where my body can’t handle pushing a 35 pound stroller and a 30 pound toddler up hills. Instead of feeling refreshed after each run, I’ve started feeling exhausted and in pain with swollen knees.

I want to be a mom that can play soccer with my little one and easily be able to keep up with him as he takes off running in excitement, so I’ve been trying to figure out a new work out regimen that works for out life right now. My husband doesn’t come home until after dark, so that eliminates running outside and I despise running on a treadmill. I finally decided to switch out our 20 minute runs for 30 minute walks and 150 sit ups. This combo definitely doesn’t give that endorphin surge that comes with running and it’s more time consuming, but the combo seems to be maintaining my physique the same way running did.

It can be hard being a mom and balancing my needs with the little ones and hubby’s needs, but as long as I stay flexible and am willing to adapt it seems that I can maintain my fitness goals.

On a side note……I have been loving the neon work out clothes trend. Just putting on a bright color seems to give me boost of energy and I love that this pull over  is reflective since it’s getting dark so early now and it comes in 4 colors!

I’m a runner too and it’s like a million times harder running with heavy toddlers! You look amazing Carly! And I love your workout clothes.

It is so hard to run with them as they get bigger! Can’t wait until we have to tackle double strollers–Ugh! Thanks for the sweet comment

It is so hard to run with kiddos, especially two! Maybe you can give power walking a try. It’s working well for us. Thanks for stopping by
